Crus Rydberg’s Five Point Weekend Tightens Plymouth’s Playoff Race


Victor Crus Rydberg found the score sheet in all three games this week, leading the Plymouth Whalers to a 2-0-1 record in a tightening OHL playoff race. Crus Rydberg potted a goal and an assist on Thursday and Friday, as the Whalers split a pair of against the Sarnia Sting winning 6-3 and falling 3-2 in overtime, respectively. , Plymouth capped off the weekend with a 3-1 win over the Ottawa 67’s and  with Crus Rydberg contributing one assist.. The victory pulled the Whalers within two points of the Windsor Spitfires and Saginaw Spirit for the final Western Conference playoff spot. The Tingryd, Sweden native finished the weekend with five points (two goals, three assists). The Islanders selected the 6’0” forward in the fifth round, 136th overall in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers:  21-29-5-1, 5th in Northeast Division, 15th in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers had a busy weekend with three games in three nights. On Friday and Saturday the Sound Tigers fell to the Springfield Falcons 5-3 and 3-0 respectively. Matt Carkner, Harry Zolnierczyk, and Alan Quine scored Friday, but Bridgeport could not overcome three third period goals by the Falcons. The Sound Tigers returned home Sunday where they fell to the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins by a score of 7-0.

Stockton Thunder: 16-38-1, 7th in Pacific Division, 14th in Western Conference

The Stockton Thunder started their season-high seven game road trip with two losses to the Utah Grizzlies. On Wednesday, Garrett Hunt opened the scoring with his 10th goal of the season but the Grizzlies scored four straight to down the Thunder 4-1. Kent Simpson stopped 26 -of- 29 in the losing effort. On Saturday night, Jack Combs scored with 16 seconds left but the Thunder came up short 3-2 in Utah. Tyler Shattock notched the other tally for the Thunder.
