Devon Toews ups scoring in second season


Quinnipiac defenseman Devon Toews continued to string together a solid sophomore season with the No. 15-ranked Bobcats after finishing with two points (one goal, one assist) in a pair of wins over RPI and Union College last weekend. Toews ranks fourth overall on Quinnipiac and leads defensemen with 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 20 games. The New York Islanders selected the Abbotsford, British Columbia native in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Draft after posting 17 points (one goal, 16 assists) in 37 games with Quinnipiac as a freshman.

Dal Colle’s point streak ends at 21 games

Michael Dal Colle’s 21-game point streak came to an end over the weekend, as the Islanders first-rounder was held pointless for the first time since Oct. 23. Over the two-and-a-half month stretch, Dal Colle scored 45 points (20 goals, 26 assists), including 14 multi-point games. Dal Colle’s most productive month was November, where the 2014 fifth-overall pick scored 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) in 10 games.

Bridgeport Sound Tigers:  18-15-3-1, 4th in Northeast Division, 9th in Eastern Conference

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers opened the weekend with a 4-1 win over the Portland Pirates. Colton Gillies, Harry Zolnierczyk, Alan Quine and John Persson scored while Kevin Poulin turned away 34 shots. Kael Mouillierat scored the only Sound Tigers goal in a 3-1 loss to the Albany Devils on Saturday, Mouillierat then netted the deciding goal in a 4-3 overtime win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Sunday afternoon. Cory Conacher, Aaron Ness and John Persson scored in regulation against the Wolf Pack. Conacher led the team with four points in the three games (one goal, three assists), while John Persson (two goals, one assist), Harry Zolnierczyk (one goal, two assists) and Jesse Graham (three assists) chipped in with three points.

Stockton Thunder: 13-25-1, 7th in Pacific Division, 13th in Western Conference

The Thunder’s losing streak continued this past week, losing twice to both the Colorado Eagles and Utah Grizzlies. Peter Sivak and Adam Phillips scored in a 4-2 loss to the Eagles on Tuesday while Tyler Maxwell scored a pair of goals in a 3-2 loss on Thursday. The Utah Grizzlies spoiled the return of goaltender Cody Reichard to the Thunder lineup on Friday night with a 7-2 win. The Thunder acquired Reichard, who played in Stockton during the 2012–13 season, from the Indy Fuel in exchange for goaltender Shane Owen. Garet Hunt and Alex Mallet scored in the loss. On Saturday, Tyler Shattock and James Henry scored in a 3-2 loss to the Grizzlies. On a positive note, the ECHL named forward Lukas Sutter as an alternate for the CCM ECHL All-Star Classic in Orlando, Florida to be held on Jan. 21.
