David Quenneville and the Medicine Hat Tigers were eliminated in the first round of the WHL playoffs, falling in six games to the Brandon Wheat Kings.
Quenneville recorded eight points (1G, 7A) in the six-game series, posting a five-game point streak after being held off the scoresheet in the series opener. As of Monday morning, Quenneville was the WHL's highest-scoring defenseman in the postseason and was the highest-scoring defenseman in the regular season.
Medicine Hat won games one and two of the series by a combined score of 14-5, but the pendulum swung back in a major way, with Brandon winning four straight to close out the series. The Wheat Kings scored five goals in three straight games, winning 5-3 in game three and 5-2 in both games four and five.
Quenneville had a pair of assists in game six, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Wheat Kings, who closed out the series with a 4-3 overtime win.
The Islanders' 2016 seventh-round pick has amassed 214 points (69G, 145A) in 251 WHL games. Quenneville would have to sign an entry-level contract with the Islanders or an amateur tryout with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers to be eligible to finish the season in the AHL with Bridgeport.
