The Islanders European goalies are on fire, as Ilya Sorokin and CSKA are in the second round of the KHL playoffs, while Linus Soderstom had a record-setting year in the SHL. Sorokin and CSKA Lead Second Round Series, 2-1
Ilya Sorokin and CSKA lead Lokomotiv 2-1 in the second round of the KHL playoffs.
Sorokin opened the series with a 4-2 win over Lokomotiv, stopping 20 of the 22 shots on goal. Sorokin's five-game playoff winning streak ended in Game 2, as CSKA lost their first game of the playoffs 4-3. Sorokin allowed three goals on 27 shots. CSKA responded with a 2-1 win in Game 3 of the series but backup goaltender Viktor Fasth got the start in goal.
The Islanders' 2014 third-round pick was superb in net in the first round of the playoffs against Jokerit posting a superb .942 save percentage and 1.33 goals against average in the four game sweep.

Soderstrom Sets SHL Record
Linus Soderstrom recorded two wins for HV71 in the final weekend of the regular season in the Swedish Hockey League.
Soderstrom recorded his sixth shutout of the season against Lulea on Tuesday night, making 17 saves in a 6-0 win for HV71. The goaltender was named the game's first star for his effort. Soderstrom stood tall in net on Thursday as HV71 defeated Färjestad 3-2 to finish second place in the standings and clinch a spot in the SHL quarterfinals. The HV71 netminder made 16 saves on 18 shots. HV71 will wait to find out who their is opponent for their game on March 18.
Soderstrom had an excellent season for HV71 and ranked among the top goaltenders in the most of the league's statistics. The Islanders' 2014 fourth round pick leads goalies with an SHL record 1.34 goals against average, is second with a .943 save percentage, and second among SHL goalies with six shutouts.
Bischoff Wins Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Minnesota Clinches Title
Defenseman Jake Bischoff was named the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-B1G pick. Bischoff had career-year with 32 points (7G, 25A) in 36 games this season and finished the year with a career-high 10-game point streak.
In Big Ten play, the Minnesota Golden Gophers secured the team's sixth-straight conference title in the final weekend of regular season play with a 4-0 win over Michigan State on Friday night. The Gophers regular season ended with a 2-1 shootout loss in a rematch against Michigan State.
As the top seed heading into the Big Ten Tournament, the Gophers will face off against the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal game between Penn State and Michigan. The semifinal game will take place on Friday, March 17 at 8:00 p.m.
Quenneville Sets New Season High in Points
David Quenneville set a new career-high in points (56) this week after he posted four points in three games for the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL. Quenneville's 56 points (22G, 34A) have come in 46 games this season, 18 games fewer than he played last season, as he missed a considerable amount of time with a fractured tibia. Since returning to the lineup on Feb. 24, Quenneville seven points in eight games, continuing his career-year.
Last week, the offensive-minded defenseman notched four points in three games, setting up the opening goal as well as the game tying goal in the third period in a 4-3 overtime win over Kootenay on Tuesday.
Quenneville scored a goal and registered an assist in a 9-3 win over Edmonton on Friday night. The two-point effort brought his point total up to 56 points, officially setting a new career high.
BU advances to Hockey East Semifinals
Boston University swept the Northeastern Huskies in the Hockey East Quarterfinals this weekend, winning both games by a score of 3-2. Kieffer Bellows and Doyle Somerby dressed in both games for the Terriers.
With the series win, BU advanced to the Hockey East Semifinals, where they will face off against arch-rival Boston College. The game is slated for an 8:05 p.m. start on Friday, March 17 and will be televised on ESPN3. If the Terriers win, they will play for the Hockey East Championship on March 18.
Vande Sompel Reaches 20-Goal Mark
Mitchell Vande Sompel netted his 20th goal of the season in a 6-2 win for the London Knights on Sunday. The defenseman reached the 20-goal milestone for the first time in his four seasons playing in the OHL. Vande Sompel is one of two defensemen in the OHL to score 20 goals or more this season.
Vande Sompel, the Islanders' 2015 third round pick had two points in three games over the weekend. The London, Ont. native ranks fifth on the Knights in scoring with 20 goals and 32 assists for 52 points in 63 games played and is first among his team's defensemen.
Missouri Splits Weekend Games, Name Change in Place for 2017-18 Season
Missouri Mavericks: 28-24-2-5; 6th in Mountain Division; 10th in Western Conference
The Missouri Mavericks posted a 3-2 loss to the Allen Americans on Friday night before rebounding with a 7-2 win against the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday afternoon.
Despite outshooting Allen 48-35, the Mavericks could not even up the score in the third period after falling behind in the second period. On Sunday, Missouri fell behind 2-0 to Tulsa early in the first period. The Mavs responded with seven unanswered goals in the game, including two-goal efforts from both Dan Correale and Dane Fox.
Missouri will play Wichita at home on Tuesday night before heading on the road for a weekend series against the Quad City Mallards.
The Mavericks also made an announcement this week that they will officially change their name to the Kansas City Mavericks at the completion of the 2016-17 season. The team will remain in the ECHL and continue to play at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena.
U18 PAL AAA Jr. Islanders Heading To Nationals:
The U18 PAL AAA Jr. Islanders won the U18 NY State Tier 1 Championship over the weekend and have qualified for USA Hockey Nationals.
The Youth Tier 1 U18 nationals will take place from April 6-10 in Pittsburgh.
