Islanders Prospect Nelson Selected To US Junior Team

USA hockey has announced team USA’s roster for the 2010 World Junior Championships, being held in Buffalo, NY. Islanders prospect Brock Nelson was selected to the 22-man national squad, which will play its first game on Dec. 26 against Finland at HSBC Arena.

Nelson, 19, was the Islanders second selection in the first round (30th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The Minneapolis, MN, native has six points (two goals, four assists) in 20 games this season as a freshman at the University of North Dakota of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Nelson also participated in the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp this year, logging six points (three goals, three assists) in six games against teams from Finland, Sweden and the U.S.

Last season, the 6-3, 185-pound forward Scored 73 points (39 goals, 34 assists) in 25 games at Warroad High School in Minnesota. He was one of 10 finalists for the Mr. Hockey Award, given annually to the most outstanding senior high school hockey player in Minnesota.
