The Islanders were at Iceworks for two hard days of practice ahead of a four-game homestand against Winnipeg, Detroit, Washington and Pittsburgh. Here are some news, pictures and notes from Tuesday's practice.
“The focus today was work,” Matt Carkner
said. “We had a good, crisp practice and in between we were skating. Sometimes you just have to work yourself through these things. Today we put a good hard workday in… The guys in here are tired right now, but in the end it’ll pay off for us.” Penalty Kill:
Head coach Jack Capuano focused on the teams’ penalty kill and defensive coverage over the two days. On Tuesday, the Islanders worked exclusively on the PK for 45 minutes before practice and held a PK meeting afterwards. MacDonald and Hickey Skate:
Andrew MacDonald and Thomas Hickey were both skating today at Iceworks. MacDonald left practice Monday after taking a puck up high and Hickey sat out Monday’s skate with a lower-body injury. Capuano did not give an update on their status for Wednesday’s game. From the Coach:
“It’s good to see (MacDonald and Hickey) out there, but we’ll reevaluate them after practice. We’ve had some crazy luck on the back end this year, so we hope they are okay.”
