The 2012-13 season just started, but Islanders players are already lending a helping hand in the community.
After practice on Sunday, Jan. 20, Islanders forwards Casey Cizikas, Colin McDonald and David Ullstrom made their way across Hempstead Turnpike to volunteer at the Telecare Telethon. The players spent most of their time at the phones while taking donations and speaking to fans who called in. The rest of the visit was spent taking pictures and signing autographs for other volunteers that were on site for the telethon.
“We had a great time coming out today,” McDonald said. “We had a chance to speak with some of our fans while raising money for a good cause.”
“Helping out at community event like this is a great way to start the season for us,” Cizikas said. “The organization is passionate about what they do and we were happy to come down and help out.”
Some of the other special guests who volunteered at Telecare on Sunday includedpear include: Regis Philbin, Lidia Bastianich, Rosanna Scotto, Bud Harrelson, Joe Franklin, Dominic Chianese, Maryann Esposito, nine choirs from Catholic elementary and high schools in the Diocese of Rockville Centre and members of the New York Jets.
