Spring 1 session of the Islanders Floorball Program is in full swing at Nathaniel Woodhull Elementary. The fourth grade class reviewed the similarities of floorball to ice hockey, safety rules, and essential skills of how to hold the stick properly and advance the ball under control.
Students broke off into teams of three and practiced stick handling cross-ice increasing their speed with every turn back and forth. "Let's review," coaches Mr. Mocera after a few rounds. "It's important to assess what we are doing wrong and how to improve so that we don't form any bad habits when learning the fundamentals." Students are eagerly anticipating their next class period in which they learn the next floorball skill. "I wish we could have hockey gym class all day!" exclaimed one student.
