13 Islanders Picks in 2006 Draft

Through some wheeling and dealing, eight Islanders draft choices were parlayed into 13 picks at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver the most since the Isles selected 14 in 1999.

June 24th was highlighted by the seventh overall pick, Kyle Okposo. Of the 13 Isles picks, six hailed from the US, three from Sweden, two from Canada and one each from Finland and Slovakia.

Below are the 13 Islanders selections at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft:

Round 1 -  KYLE OKPOSO (7 overall)

Round 2 - JESSE JOENSUU (60)

Round 3 - ROBIN FIGREN (70)

Round 4  - RHETT RAKHSHANI (100)
Round 4  - JASE WESLOSKY (108)
Round 4 - TOMAS MARCINKO (115)
Round 4 - DOUG ROGERS (119)

Round 5 - SHANE SIMS (126)
Round 5 - KIM JOHANSSON (141)

Round 6 - ANDREW MACDONALD (160)
Round 6 - BRIAN DAY (171)

Round 7 - TROY MATTILA (190)


The Islanders traded the 71st pick overall to the Boston Bruins in exchange for the 98th pick and the 126th pick

The Islanders traded the 88th pick overall to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for the 115th pick & 119th pick.

The Islanders traded the 98th pick overall to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 108th pick & 173rd pick.

The Islanders traded the 110th pick overall to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for 141st pick & 171st pick.
