Islanders Scout Tim MacLean
On Mark Scheifele - Scheifele is a big lanky guy who improved a lot as the year progressed. He ended the year playing for Team Canada at the World Under-18 tournament. He was the offensive leader for a very poor Barrie team and showed solid playmaking ability. He came a long way this year.
NHL Central Scouting's Chris Edwards
On Mark Scheifele - Mark protects the puck very well and will take it to the net while fighting through checks. He's got a great work ethic. His Barrie Colts have struggled this season and he has been relied upon to provide offense. He sees the ice very well and his playmaking ability is very good. He gets back quickly and works hard defensively.
Barrie head coach Dale Hawerchuk
On Mark Scheifele - The opportunity was there for him (this season) and he ran with it. . . . He's great. Everybody loves being around Scheif, he comes in smiling every day, can't wait to get on the ice. That's infectious to everybody. And that's how you want it to be.
Islanders Scout Vellu Kautonen
On Alexander Ruuttu - Ruuttu has a good frame and reads the game well. He has good blood lines as his father, Christian Ruuttu, is a former NHL player who played for Buffalo, Chicago and Vancouver.

Ontario Hockey League
Since the team’s inception in 1995, the Barrie Colts became the first team to make the playoffs in its inaugural season. The team has also never missed the postseason in its history. The Colts became OHL Champions during the 1999-2000 season after winning the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
If the Islanders select Mark Scheifele, he would be the only player drafted from the Colts, as no other player has been selected from that team in Islanders history.
The Islanders have chosen 10 players from SM-liiga, formerly SM-sarja, in Finland. If selected, Alexander Ruuttu would join Sean Bergenheim (2002, 22nd overall) as the only other player chosen from Jokerit-Helsinki.
Ruuttu would also be the only American-born player drafted from a European league in the Islanders existence. The only other North American-born player chosen by the Islanders from a European league was Canadian-born Robert Nilsson (2003, 15th overall) out of Leksands IF of the Swedish Elite League.
Ruuttu, like Nilsson, has NHL blood, as both of their fathers played in the NHL. Alexander’s father, Christian, spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks, at which time Alexander was born. Nilsson was born in Calgary where his father Kent was a member of the Flames.
