The New York Islanders have assigned forward Casey Cizikas and Travis Hamonic to their respective major junior teams.

Hamonic came into his second camp with the Islanders after he was selected in the 2nd round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, 53rd overall.  The St. Malo, Manitoba native has played for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League for the past three seasons totaling 47 points (18 goals and 44 assists) in 140 games.  He played in his first NHL exhibition game against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday at the Rexall Center in Edmonton.  Hamonic has been named his team captain for the upcoming 2009-10 season.

This was the first NHL Training Camp for Cizikas who was drafted by the Islanders this past summer in the 4th round (92nd overall).  Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Cizikas returns to the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors of the Ontario Hockey League for his third season.  The 5’11 forward has totaled 34 goals and 43 assists for 77 points in 107 games.
