The New York Islanders have released their schedule for the 2016-17 regular season. The club opens its season at Barclays Center on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. against the Anaheim Ducks.
Fans will see lots of action at Barclays Center early in the season, as the Islanders play six of the nine games during the month of October at home. The passion from the division rivalries will continue this season as the team plays five games each against the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes, and four games against each of its remaining Metro Division opponents, New York Rangers, New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Columbus Blue Jackets.
The schedule includes 18 weekend home games, with four Friday games, five Saturday games and nine Sunday games at Barclays Center.
The first Islanders-Rangers game in Brooklyn will take place on December 6, and the Islanders will also host their cross-town rivals on February 16. The team will welcome the defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins to Barclays Center on November 18 and November 30. Other featured home games against division rivals include three matchups against the Capitals (December 13, December 27, January 31) and a pair of matchups against the Devils (February 19, March 31) and Flyers (November 3 and January 22).
The season opener is set for Thursday, Oct. 13 against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Additionally, the Islanders will close their regular season at Barclays Center on Sunday, Apr. 9 against the Ottawa Senators.
