by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have acquired a third round pick in the 2016 National Hockey League Draft, along with forward Alexandre Mallet, from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Andrey Pedan. Mallet will be reassigned to the Islanders’ ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder.

Mallet, 22, had nine points (three goals, six assists) in 12 games this season with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. The 6’1, 205-pound forward played 59 games last season with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.

The Vancouver Canucks drafted Mallet in the second round (57th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft. A native of Amqui, QC, Mallet played four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Rimouski Oceanic and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. He recorded career highs in goals (34), assists (47), points (81) and penalty minutes (132) during his final season with Rimouski.
