The New York Islanders have acquired defenseman Mark Louis from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for goaltender David Leggio.
Louis, 27, has appeared in 34 games for the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League this season, recording three assists and racking up 77 penalty minutes. The 6’4, 229 pound blueliner played 174 career AHL games, all with the Pirates.
Before turning pro, Louis played four years of college hockey in Canada at St. Francis Xavier University. Prior to that, he spent five years in the Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings and the Red Deer Rebels, serving as an assistant captain for the Wheat Kings during the 2007-08 season.
Leggio had a 7-13-0 record with the Sound Tigers, posting a 3.93 goals against average and an .861 save percentage. Leggio has played with the Coyotes organization before, suiting up for the Pirates back in 2010-11.
