The New York Islanders have acquired defenseman Yury Alexandrov from the Boston Bruins in exchange for future considerations. Alexandrov will remain with his current club, the Omsk Avangard, for the remainder of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) season.
Alexandrov, 23, split the 2011-12 season between the St. Petersburg SKA and the Omsk Avangard of Russia’s KHL. The Bruins’ second round selection (37th overall) in the 2006 National Hockey League Entry Draft has totaled three goals and three assists in 37 KHL games this season.
A native of Cherepovets, RU, Alexandrov played his first professional season in North American in 2010-11 with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. He totaled six goals and 13 assists in 66 AHL games with Providence.
