Official Scoresheet | Official Super Stats
Mike Dunham was brilliant in his first start since November 6th, stopping 43 shots to earn his third win of the season. Alexei Yashin, Arron Asham, Jason Blake and Miroslav Satan provided the offense, and the Islanders skated away with a 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers Saturday night at the Bank Atlantic Center.
Just after killing off a penalty, the Islanders went up 1-0. Blake dropped a pass to Yashin, and in one motion whipped a shot past Ed Belfour with 8:05 left in the first period. Brendan Witt also earned an assist on Yashin's eighth goal.
Ville Peltonen tied the game at 1-1, picking up a rebound and chipping it by Dunham at 2:26 of the second period. It was Peltonen's first goal of the season.
Off a flurry in a front of the net, Asham scored his first goal of the season. The puck kicked over to Asham, who carried the puck to Belfour's left and lifted it over him. Shawn Bates and Richard Park assisted on the goal that made it 2-1 Islanders with 5:41 remaining in the second period.
Dunham made the save of the game late in the second period. Dunham turned just in time with an outstretched glove to stop Peltonen's rebound shot ticketed for the back of the net. With only seconds remaining in the second period, Dunham came up big again with a two-pad stack on Olli Jokinen to keep it 2-1 Islanders.
Blake and Yashin teamed up again on the rush to make it 3-1 Islanders. Yashin fed a perfect pass to Blake, who re-directed it through Belfour's pads for his tenth goal of the season with 3:33 left in the third period.
Satan salted the game away with an empty-net goal with 40 seconds left in the game.
