The Islanders' Picks in the Top 10

For the first time since 2000 when they selected Rick DiPietro first overall and Raffi Torres fifth, the Islanders will be drafting with a lottery pick next month. So taking a walk down memory lane, here's a look at all of the Islanders' top-ten draft selections.

1st overall: Billy Harris (1972), Denis Potvin (1973); Rick DiPietro (2000)

2nd overall: Dave Chyzowski (1989), Wade Redden (1995)

3rd overall: Pat LaFontaine (1983), J.P. Dumont (1996)

4th overall: Clark Gilles (1974), Scott Lachance (1991), Roberto Luongo (1997)

5th overall: Darius Kasparaitis (1992)Tim Connolly (1999) Raffi Torres (2000)

6th overall: Brad Dalgarno (1985), Scott Scissons (1990)

7th overall:  None

8th overall: Taylor Pyatt (1999)

9th overall: Brett Lindros (1994), Michael Rupp (1998)

10th overall: Branislav Mezei (1999)

Incredibly, in the franchise's previous 34 drafts, the Islanders have never drafted at the No. 7 position in the first round. Those are some long odds considering the team has had 20 top-ten draft picks over 16 different drafts.
