Sorokin Named NHL Third Star of the Week

The National Hockey League announced today that goaltender Ilya Sorokin has been named the NHL's "Third Star" for the Week ending November 27, 2022.
Sorokin turned aside 103 of the 107 shots he faced last week, recording three consecutive wins in five nights. His 103 saves led all NHL netminders last week.

Monday, November 21, in Toronto, Sorokin made 30 saves on 32 shots faced, helping the Islanders earn their first road win in Toronto since December 29, 2018. It was his first career win against the Maple Leafs.

Wednesday, November 23, the 27-year-old netminder posted a career-high 49-save shutout against Edmonton. It was Sorokin's second shutout of the season and 12th of his career. His 49 saves are the third-most in a shutout in Islanders history, behind Jaroslav Halak (51) and Glenn Healy (50). Sorokin's 49 saves rank third amongst NHL goaltenders in a single game this season (Forsberg, 53, Vasilevskiy, 52).
The Mezhdurechensk, RUS native made his third consecutive start on Friday night against Columbus, stopping 24 of 26 shots faced to help the Islanders earn their fifth straight win against a division opponent.
Sorokin has a 10-5-0 record through 15 starts so far this season. This month, Sorokin has a 7-2-0 record, a goals-against average of 2.17 and a save percentage of .933, helping the Islanders earn 10 wins in November for the fourth time in franchise history.
