On Tuesday morning, the Islanders Business Club held a special Coach's Breakfast at Carlyle on the Green at Bethpage Park, with Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon as the featured guest.
With more than 60 IBC members in attendance, this wasn't your typical hockey discussion. Gordon treated the event as if he was talking to members of his team. With a TV monitor, computer and a laser pen in hand, Gordon diagramed plays—some he liked and some he disliked—that his team had executed over the past month. IBC members got the chance to hear first-hand what Gordon and his staff discuss with his players.
"I wanted to be as open and as informative as I could today," said Gordon. "I know how valuable the IBC members are to our organization and hope that they were able to take away something interesting from the presentation."
Following the video breakdown, Islanders radio broadcaster and event host Steve Mears started the question and answer session with a few of his own queries, before opening it up to the IBC members.
Gordon spoke candidly about topics ranging from player performances to luring top-end talent to Long Island.
"This event was exactly what I needed to hear," said longtime Islanders fan Sam Jacobs, who is the President of Business Builders Group, LLC. "Scott gave us an honest idea of what is going on with the team. I think it would be a great opportunity if more fans had the chance to hear what he had to say."
