Very deservedly, forward Trent Hunter has been named the winner of the 2006-07 Bob Nystrom Award, given to the New York Islander who best exemplifies leadership, hustle and dedication. The award was presented to Hunter at a reception after Sunday's game by the New York Islanders Booster Club, which comprised the selection committee.
"This honor means as much to me as any award I could ever possibly be considered for," said the 26-year old Hunter. "Bobby Nystrom is a legendary Islander who brought so much more to the dynasty than just goals and assists. To receive an award named after him is a real thrill for me. It means even more when you consider so many of my teammates would be just as worthy."
The Bob Nystrom Award has been handed out each Islanders season since 1991. Previous winners include Brent Sutter (1991), Steve Thomas (1994) Claude Lapointe (1997, 1999, 2000), Jason Blake and Garth Snow (co-winners in 2003) and last season's recipient, Kevin Colley.
