Now is the time to sign up for the Learn to Skate and Introduction to Hockey classes at Islanders Iceworks, the premier skating facility on Long Island and the only place where you can learn from the pros.
Classes begin in November, so call 516.496.2277 to enroll now.
The Learn to Skate program -- for everyone from 4 to 84 -- teaches the elementary skills of skating to the beginner, while building balance, speed and, most importantly, confidence. Sean Byrnes of Plainview, the father of a young boy who took the Learn to Skate classes in the summer, recently sent Islanders Iceworks an email of appreciation.
"My six--year old loves the Islanders and wanted to learn how to skate and eventually play like Jason Blake, but he was nervous and not sure if he wanted to take the class," wrote Mr. Byrnes. "But the moment we arrived at Islanders Iceworks, the staff made him feel relaxed and he loved the program. I thought by the end of the program he might be comfortable just standing on his skates. By the third class, he was stopping on a dime and starting to skate backwards! Thanks so much for a great class."
The Introduction to Hockey (or Hockey 101) program focuses on maneuvering in full hockey equipment, learning the rules of the game and building vital skating, passing and shooting skills. This is an extremely popular program because you learn from the pros right where the pros play -- at the newly-renovated official practice facility of the New York Islanders.
