by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The National Hockey League announced today that Islanders goaltender Jaroslav Halak was named the First Star of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 30.

Halak, 29, allowed just three goals in three games last week and won them all, extending his career-best winning streak to nine games. He is one win away from tying Hall of Fame and four-time Stanley Cup Champion Billy Smith’s franchise record for consecutive victories (10), set in 1982. The Bratislava, Slovakia, native stopped 80-of-83 shots last week and allowed just one even-strength goal. He posted his third shutout of the season on Monday, Nov. 24 against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Halak went 9-1-0 in November with a 1.37 goals against average and a .950 save percentage. He’s 12-4-0 this season with a 2.13 goals against average and .926 save percentage.
