Grabner Named NHL Rookie Of The Month

UNIONDALE, NY, March 2, 2011 – The National Hockey League announced today that New York Islanders forward Michael Grabner has been named the Rookie of the Month for February.

Grabner, 23, recorded 10 goals and six assists in 14 games last month. The Villach, Austria native also posted a plus-7 rating to help the Islanders to an 8-5-1 record in February. Grabner ranks second on the Islanders in scoring this season with 37 points, and his 25 goals are tied for first place among NHL rookies.

The Vancouver Canucks selected Grabner in the first round, 14th overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut with Vancouver last year during his third professional season, scoring 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 20 games. The Islanders claimed Grabner off of waivers from the Florida Panthers on October, 5, 2011.
