The Islanders took the ice in their new “Third Jersey” on Saturday night, and now is your chance to get one of your own. The new jersey, which is reminiscent of the ones the Islanders donned in the mid-1970s, is on sale now at the Islanders Team Store at the Broadway Mall in Hicksville, as well as the Nassau Coliseum.
If you purchase your new jersey at the Coliseum, you can take advantage of the new “Personalization Station,” which allows fans to have their jersey personalized with any name and number while you wait! The “Personalization Station” is located inside the Coliseum box office.
The new jersey is royal blue with white numbers and letters, outlined in orange, but there is one subtle change from the sweaters the Isles wore in the '70s. On the new “Third Jersey,” the stick—within the Islanders logo—has four lines on it, instead of the usual three. This is to recognize the Islanders four Stanley Cup championships.
The Islanders will wear the new uniforms for every Saturday and Sunday home game for the rest of the 2008-09 season. This marks the eighth time since the Islanders entered the league in 1972 that the team has made a significant change to their jersey or complete uniform. The last time the Islanders played in a “Third Jersey” was in 2006-07 when the team donned an orange jersey for a number of home games.
