Islanders (17-13-3) vs. Columbus (13-18-3)

(7:00 p.m. ET, TV: FSN NY2 | Radio: Bloomberg 1130) In their only meeting this season, the Columbus Blue Jackets take on the Islanders tonight at the Nassau Coliseum.

It's been more than one year since the Islanders last faced the Blue Jackets on December 8, 2005. The Islanders traveled to Columbus, but lost 4-3 in the shootout. David Vyborny scored the lone goal in the extra session.

Columbus has had its troubles this year, sporting a 13-18-3 record. Their leading scorer, Vyborny has 30 points in 34 games. The team suffered when their top offensive defenseman, Duvie Westcott, went down with a serious injury, but he's returned to the lineup to help bolster the power play.

The netminding in Columbus has been split between sophomore Pascal Leclaire and rookie Fredrik Norrena.

In the past four games, the Blue Jackets have alternated wins and losses. Their latest game was a 3-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Rick Nash scored the game-winner late in the third period. Leclaire left the game early with a hamstring injury and was replaced by Norrena.

This is the Islanders' last game before the holiday break. They return to action on the 26th when they play host to the Rangers in their first of four meetings at the Coliseum.

This will be the sixth time the Islanders play games on consecutive nights. They are 5-0-0 in the second games.

Chris King and Steve Mears have the call on Bloomberg Radio 1130, while Howie Rose and Billy Jaffe can be seen tonight on FSN NY 2.
