10:27: Kevin Poulin heads out for the skate.
10:32: Cal Clutterbuck starts a rush up the ice.
10:48: Jack Capuano just finished up with the media. Islanders will go with the same lineup as Saturday. He's giving Clutterbuck a chance to heal a bit before possibly inserting him into the lineup Friday at Chicago.
10:51: Capuano, on the Islanders defensive awareness and puck management through two games: "It's been pretty good. It's a little better than the start of last season, and it has to continue to get better. But to me, it's about strength and how you defend. We have some guys back there who aren't the biggest guys, but they've got good sticks and good body position. That's something that we continually work on and show video on."
10:55: Capuano, on tonight's opponent: "They're a great skating team. They're quick. They're mobile on the back end. Yandle is back there, and they've got a few other guys who really are active. They've got some good experience on their hockey club, and obviously Mike Smith in net who plays the puck extremely well. He's like a third defenseman back there. We've got to be ready to skate. When you play some of these teams, it's like a track meet - you have to keep your feet moving all the time."
11:15: Josh Bailey, on if it's difficult playing in back-to-back shootouts to start the season: "I don't think so. If anything, we've gained a little more confidence in those situations. Overtimes are so short, so they don't really take a whole lot of you."
11:21: Bailey, on what areas the Islanders need to improve on: "I don't know if there's one big thing. But when we get the momentum, we need to keep it. I thought we had some momentum at times Saturday, but we let it slip, and they found a way to get one. Next thing you know, it's tied up."
11:44: Some photos from Phoenix's portion of morning skate:
12:15: The Coyotes just wrapped up their media availability session. Here's Derek Morris, on what makes Oliver Ekman-Larsson so effective on the Phoenix blue line: "He's done a real good job of learning how to play both ends of the ice. He's got a phenomenal stick in his own zone, and probably skates better than anyone in the league. He moves laterally, closes holes real quick and he makes smart decisions. He plays a simple game, but a really effective one...I think he is a special player. I think people are going to start to notice him more this year with the full season."
12:23: Shane Doan, on the Coyotes new ownership group: "It's great. Not only did we get new owners, but we got pretty good ones. That's an even bigger plus. Both of them are avid hockey fans, and as a player, you want someone who's invested the same way you are. That's encouraging and exciting."
12:28: Doan, on what Phoenix Coyotes hockey is: "It's usually pretty simple. It's not too flashy. We've got a pretty good group of D that can move the puck pretty well. We count on them a lot. Keith Yandle led us in scoring last year, and he's obviously one of the catalysts, along with Oliver Ekman-Larsson back there. It starts with our back end and [goaltender Mike Smith]. As forwards, we try to keep up to everyone else. It's a good group, and we play well together. That's what makes us successful."
12:33: Phoenix head coach Dave Tippett, on what he sees in the Islanders: "I've watched them a little bit. They're a team that looks like they're emerging, with young players who are really trying to become top NHL players. They play with a lot of speed. They've got some good skill, so it'll be a good test for us."LISTEN: JACK CAPUANO MORNING SKATE AUDIO 10/8/13That does it for this morning's updates.
