Sylvan Avenue Elementary, Bayport NY - Wednesday, April 25 2018
Third grade students at Sylvan Avenue Elementary continued their Islanders Floorball unit today. Class began with dribble around and stick-handling warm-ups including a game of "Dribble Knockout" in which players used their poke checking skills to poke opponent's ball out of play. "Poke checks can be safer and more effective than sweep checks," advises physical education teacher Mrs. Richford. Next, players broke into teams of four and practiced game skills through a fun obstacle course. Class finished with a round-robin tournament where players were challenged with following offside rules. "Teamwork is my favorite part of hockey," said one student, "Sometimes I play offense and sometimes I play defense, but my teammates and I always keep playing time fair."
