On the morning of the Islanders home game vs. the Detroit Red Wings, over 12,000 fans on the Islanders fan page were notified that the Team was hiding lower level, center ice tickets at a partner’s location on Long Island and that the first to arrive on premise would receive tickets to that night’s game. Fans were told to check back at noon when the location would be revealed- Social Sports Kitchen. The initial response to the program was better than expected. At 12:10, the first to arrive was Eric Morgenweck, a loyal fan that happens to work in the area the tickets were left. Others arrived after Eric, and so as to not be left empty handed, were offered 15% off their lunch at Social.
Last Thursday, prior to the home game against the Florida Panthers, the team decided to execute a similar promotion, but instead of giving the tickets away at a partner location, the tickets had to be earned by answering a trivia question in the Islanders Digital Game Day program, presented by Petro Oil. The Petro Digital Game Day program, is e-mailed out to Islanders fans prior to all 41 home games and was a Goal Green initiative that began this season. Now online, the Team has contributed to this Goal Green initiative, while offering fans an even better glimpse at insights of the Team, right at everyone’s fingertips. When the program was released to the Islanders database, the Team notified fans on Facebook that they could find the question in the Petro Digital Gameday Program. The question, which was found on page 34, asked fans the following: “In the 82-82 season, who led the Islanders in penalty minutes?” The first to send in the correct answer was Dan Ratto, a 22-year old graduate of SUNY Delhi. When we asked Dan how he knew the answer, he replied, “I sent the question to KGB and got a response right back.”
Dan was accompanied by his friend, Scott Jandovitz, a 22-year old graduate of St. John’s University. Dan and Scott, who are normally with the Chipotle Loudville crazies in section 330, were rewarded with two seats in section 114. Although not as loud as their normal seats, the two enjoyed sitting right by the glass, which happened to be only the second time in their lives they sat that low.
