The clouds broke and the sun began to shine just in time for the 2008 Islanders Season Ticket Holder Kick-Off Party at Eisenhower Park on Sunday afternoon. The Islanders' biggest supporters had the opportunity to meet the entire team, including Head Coach Scott Gordon and GM Garth Snow at an annual event that continues to thrill everyone involved.
Broadcaster CJ Papa served as the Master Of Ceremonies for this upbeat event. Papa introduced Snow, Gordon, the Ice Girls and Sparky before bringing out the main attraction––the 2008-09 Islanders.
"I'm thrilled to see so many fans out here," said Snow. "It's because of you––the season ticket holders––that we have such a great fan base. We look forward to seeing you all at the Coliseum."
Following introductions, New York City Swing returned to entertaining the crowd with their swinging hits as the players took their places at their respective tables.
Since 10 am, fans filed into Eisenhower Park, Field 7, for the perfect setting to meet players and have everything from hats to jerseys to photos signed. One family in particular thought ahead––one year exactly.
"We were at this event last year and had my daughter Alexa take pictures with the players," said Todd Kramer of Oceanside. "Now we're back to have the players sign the pictures. I've been a season subscriber for 10 years and my daughter loves these events."
An Islanders event wouldn't be compete without the I.C.E Tour and its inflatable games and R.V., where fans young and old took part in friendly video game hockey matchups.
"It's really nice to be able to meet the players," said Chris Sanders of Medford. "The setting is also nice. It gives my girls a chance to spread out a little and play on the inflatable slide."
The Islanders will play in one more preseason game––tomorrow at 7 pm against the Panthers in Florida––before beginning the regular season on Friday against the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center.Click here
