Benefactors of RexCorp Islanders Inspire providing tickets and transportation for children at Kids' Opening Day

When the Islanders founded the Rexcorp Islanders Inspire program this summer, the team knew they would be making a difference for children all across Long Island, but what they didn’t know was how much of an impact it would make so quickly.

Upon arrival, the quartet of Bill Guerin, Mike Comrie, Ruslan Fedotenko and Jon Sim immediately signed up for the new initiative that allows the Long Island business community the opportunity to create Islanders memories for thousands of children on Long Island that might not otherwise get the chance.

On Monday, the true magnitude of the Rexcorp Islanders Inspire program will be in effect when more than 1,200 children will take part in the festivities of Kids Opening Day and watch the Islanders go for three wins in a row when they take on the Washington Capitals.

With this being Hockey Fights Cancer Month, Guerin felt it was important to give the tickets to three foundations supporting the fight against cancer: Winthrop Cancer Center for Kids, Cancer Care of Long Island and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

“You’re giving people an opportunity to do something they might not have the opportunity to do otherwise," Guerin said after last night's home opener.
These organizations are just three of the dozens of foundations that will be positively affected by this new program that would not be made possible without the support of RexCorp. Other foundations that will be attending tomorrow’s game include:

•    MVK
•    Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence
•    Boys and Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich
•    Boys and Girls Club of the Bellport Area
•    Gateway Youth Outreach Inc.
•    Hempstead Boys and Girls Clubs, Inc.
•    Village Academy
•    Jacobs Giving Away
•    QSAC Astoria
•    Leadership Training Institute
•    Mercy First
•    Manhasset-Great Neck EOC
•    Boys and Girls Club of the Bellport Area
•    Glen Cove Boys and Girls Club
•    Grenville Baker Boys and Girls Club
•    Hicksville Youth Council's Boys and Girls Club
•    Huntington Station Enrichment Center

“We’re very thankful of this opportunity the Islanders have given us,” said Tony Bandelato, the Executive Director of the Hempstead Boys and Girls Club. “For us, it provides an opportunity for youngsters to become more familiar with the Islanders and hockey. Many of our kids lack the funds to be able to attend events like these, so this is their chance to experience something different.”
