Draft Party NHL ’11 Tourney

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders
Every young hockey player dreams about playing in the NHL with his/her heroes. At the Islanders 2011 Draft Party on June 24, 16 lucky fans will turn those dreams into reality, all without putting on a single piece of equipment.

The Islanders, along with their partners GameStreet and Play ‘N Trade, are hosting a special NHL ’11 tournament for kids between the ages of 8-15. The X-Box360 action will take place from 5:15-8:30 p.m. on the Coliseum floor. Each video game partner will host its own bracket of eight competitors, playing for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of facing off with an NHL superstar.

In the GameStreet bracket, players aged 12-15 will play for the right to match up with Islanders Calder candidate and NHL ’11 afficionado Michael Grabner. Games will consist of three seven-minute periods, with a shootout deciding any ties.

In the Play ‘N Trade bracket, gamers aged 8-11 will battle it out for the same three rounds as their older cohorts under the same rules. This younger bracket allows the winning fan to challenge the Islanders Canadian-born 30-goal scorer, Matt Moulson, in the EA Sports best-seller.

The 16 winning fans will be chosen at random and announced at 5:15 p.m. during the Draft Party, just prior to the start of the tournament.

Submissions will be taken from Monday, June 20th through Thursday, June 23rd at 6 p.m. To sign up for the tournament, click here.
