The New York Islanders announced today that goaltender Rick DiPietro and defenseman Mike Mottau have been placed on injured reserve. Mottau will miss the remainder of the 2010-11 season, requiring surgery to his right hip.
DiPietro was out of the lineup for the first time this season on Saturday, Dec. 18 due to swelling in his left knee. The former first overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft shows a 4-6-4 record this season with a 3.68 GAA and a .880 save percentage.
Mottau has sat out the past 10 games with an eye injury suffered on Nov. 21. He was cleared for physical activity last week, but has now been placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the 2010-11 season with a torn labrum in his right hip. The defenseman had three assists in 20 games this season.
