DINNER OF CHAMPIONS

by Staff Writer / New York Islanders

The Allstate Core of the Four members had the opportunity to spend some private time together Friday night at Rothmann’s Steakhouse in East Norwich. It was a night of storytelling, laughs and unforgettable moments that can only be experienced between close friends.

"We had plenty of stories to tell," said Core of the Four legend Bryan Trottier. "There was a lot of reminiscing by the guys and conversations about what's happening with everyone currently. The atmosphere when we get together is always pretty festive. It was upbeat as always. We can't thank the Islanders enough for allowing us to all get together this evening."

The Core of the Four members were back in their element like it was 25 years ago. What began as began as four returnees with Trottier, Bossy, Bob Nystrom and Morrow in the mix on Thursday, has grown to over a dozen. Duane Sutter and Bob Bourne are now on the Island, as is the Coach, Al Arbour. And with still more to come, the anecdotes between old teammates should only increase over the weekend.

FROM THE EAST NORWICH INN TO ROTHMANN’S

Rothmann’s Steakhouse is at the location of the old East Norwich Inn. During the Islanders’ Stanley Cup run, it was decided by management that the entire team would stay at the East Norwich Inn the night before home playoff games.

"The East Norwich Inn was where we would bunker in during the playoffs," said Trottier. "We went there to get away from phones and made sure we got proper rest. It was an opportunity to let us focus. It put us in the playoff mode. Al used it as an opportunity to get us in early, review and prepare. Everybody really enjoyed it. That's what makes it so great to be back here tonight."

There was no seriousness tonight as Trots and the gang vividly recounted tales from their glory days like they had just won the Cup last year.

With the Allstate Core of the Four Weekend now in full swing, there's little time to rest for the legends, many whom will also be taking part in tomorrow's Fan Appreciation game between the Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers at 2 pm.

FAN APPRECIATION DAY

Fan Appreciation Day, when the Islanders host the Philadelphia Flyers at 2 pm, will honor the greatest fans in the NHL. As a thank you, the Islanders organization will be giving away hundreds of prizes all game long. Several of the Core of the Four Alumni will be attending our annual Fan Appreciation Day Game. Kids will also be treated to a post-game on ice puck shootout.

On the Nassau Coliseum ice there will be a presentation for the winner of Bill Guerin’s Chopper motorcycle, which was auctioned off at newyorkislanders.com.

All fans in attendance will receive a team poster, courtesy of Valtech.
