Islanders prospects Blake Comeau and Ryan O'Marra have been named to Team Canada for the 2006 World Junior Championship held in Vancouver, Kelowna and Kamloops, BC. The annual tournament begins December 26 and sees the best prospects from each nation face off in international play. Comeau will be one of four alternate captains for the Canadian squad.
"We're very proud of Blake and Ryan," said Islanders general manager Mike Milbury. "They have earned this by hard work. It's a big honor for them to play for Canada. It will be another great experience for them on their road to becoming Islanders."
Both youngsters have been impressive so far this fall. Comeau is currently eleventh in scoring in the WHL with 37 points off 12 goals and 25 assists in 27 games for the Kelowna Rockets. O'Marra is third on the Erie Otters in scoring with 35 points off 13 goals and 22 assists in 29 games.
O'Marra was the Islanders' first round pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, while Comeau was the team's second round pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Both players attended training camp with the Islanders this past September and impressed the coaches with their skill and hard work.
