Chrome Suits the Isles

by Cory Wright / New York Islanders

The Islanders-Rangers 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series™ game at Yankee Stadium is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the Islanders and their fans. To commemorate the special occasion, the Islanders will play with a unique crest on the front of their sweaters.

The logo, a sleek, simplified and chrome-treated version of the timeless Islanders crest, is drawing great reviews from the team, who are excited to don the special crest outdoors.

“I think the logo looks great,” said captain John Tavares. “The design is smart, it pops-out and it still stays true to our historic logo. Obviously we love our home and away jerseys, but when we get a chance to wear something like this it’s cool and I can’t wait to reveal the full jersey.”

The design retains the four orange bars representing the Islanders four Stanley Cup Championships from 1980-83.

“There’s some authenticity in it,” Travis Hamonic said. “I like that we have the bars on the hockey stick to represent the Cups.

And of course, no Islanders jersey would be complete without the trademark orange.

“Coors Light incorporated the chrome look, but you can still see the Stanley Cups in orange,” Matt Martin said. “That’s really important to have orange in the logo. It’s definitely cool to still have that aspect and now it stands out more.”

Considering it’s a very unique opportunity to play an outdoor game at one of New York’s most famous venues, the customized jersey becomes a timeless memento after the final horn.

“I’ll definitely put it in a frame and hang it up in my house,” Martin said. “The event is definitely going to be something to remember.”

Full-season ticket subscribers can now place their orders for the exclusive jersey that Tavares, Hamonic, Martin and the rest of the Islanders will wear. There is a limited quantity of jerseys available, so reserve your part of New York hockey history today.
