John Tavares and Team Canada clinched the third-overall seed and an automatic spot in the quarterfinals with a 2-1 overtime win over Team Finland Sunday afternoon.

Drew Doughty scored twice for Canada, including the game-winner 2:32 into the extra frame. In the four-on-four overtime session, Doughty received a pass from fellow Los Angeles Kings’ teammate Jeff Carter and beat Boston Bruins netminder Tuuka Rask through the five-hole. Doughty has four goals in three games for the Canadians. Tavares was held off the scoresheet, but was on the ice for both of Canada’s goals.

Carolina Hurricanes forward Tuomo Ruutu scored the lone goal for the Finns, beating Carey Price with two minutes to play in the second period.

As the tournament’s third seed, Canada will next play on Wednesday against the winner of the qualification-round game between Switzerland and Latvia.
