Islanders defenseman Bruno Gervais’ commitment to the local community does not stop with the NHL season. For the third consecutive off-season the Islander defenseman returned to Long Island to participate in a handful of community events. Starting on July 17th and lasting through July 22nd, Gervais took part in numerous I.C.E Tour events.
“It is always great coming back during the summer months and seeing the fans," Gervais said. "It is important to make sure the team gets out all year long making sure that the people of Long Island know that the team is here every day of the year. We met with a lot current fans and I am sure we created some new Islanders fans as well.”
Gervais began his week on Long Island visiting the Northshore Day Camp in Glen Cove with
fellow defenseman Freddy Meyer. Hundreds of children eagerly awaited the chance to meet with both players and get their autographs. In between autographs, both Gervais and Meyer got a chance to have fun with the kids with a little pickup game of street hockey.
Throughout the rest of week, Gervais attended a press conference held at The Rinx in Hauppauge for LIPA, teamed up with Nate Thompson to visit the children at Lawrence Woodmere Academy and traveled to the Islanders Team Store in Hicksville. At each place Gervais made sure to take a few minutes to speak to everyone who came up to him as well as sign autographs and take pictures.
“I like to make sure that everybody we visit has a great time," Gervais said. "From playing the interactive games to taking part in a street hockey game with Nate, everyone had fun. I can’t wait to see meet up with them all once the season begins,” said Gervais.
Gervais also made his way to the Islanders Team Store located in the Broadway Mall in Hicksville. More then 150 fans, including a large contingent of Kids Club members, came out to meet both Gervais and Thompson and get their autographs. Make sure to check out if Islanders forward Nate Thompson will be visiting a camp near you. Also, Islander forwards Kyle Okposo and Blake Comeau will be in town next week so be sure to see where their next stop will be with the I.C.E. Tour.
