World Championships Update

Sean Bergenheim and Finland will advance to the Qualifying Round at the 2006 World Championships after a 2-0-1 record in the Preliminary Round. In three games, Bergenheim the Islanders' first round pick who showed signs of a breakout late this season scored one goal and recorded two penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating. This is Bergenheim's first time playing in the World Championships. Finland was the winner of the Group A bracket at the championships, held this year in Latvia.

Despite contributions by Frans Nielsen, Denmark was not as lucky, dropping each of their three games in the Group D bracket. Nielsen, the Islanders' third round pick in 2002 who hopes to become the first Dane in NHL history, finished the tournament with a goal, two penalty minutes and a -2 plus/minus rating.
