Coach Nolan said the shifty forward is set to return to the lineup to face Ottawa - Islanders vs. Ottawa, 7 pm - TV: FSN NY, Radio: Bloomberg 1130

Shawn Bates
Ted Nolan said this morning that Shawn Bates will dress tonight  when the Islanders face-off against the Ottawa Senators at the Nassau Coliseum.

Bates has been out with injuries since January 30 of last season. In 318 career games with the Islanders, Bates is 58-112-170, including 13 shorthanded goals.

"Shawn will play tonight" said Nolan. "We have to play four lines to compensate for some of the other things teams have. We'll scratch a defenseman come game time."

Bates will play on the right side of a line centered by Richard Park and flanked by Sean Bergenheim.

Bates returns to the lineup to help the Islanders stop a menacing force in the Ottawa Senators. Last season, Ottawa took all four games against the Islanders. Nolan told reporters what he said to his assistants about their matchups from last season.

"Last year it was like boys playing with men," said Nolan. "They out-worked us, they out-did us in every aspect of the game, but this year we have a different staff and a lot of new players, and hopefully a different result."
