and his fivesome may have been the co-winners at the First Annual Islanders Business Club Golf Outing, presented by MET-Rx, but the real winner on Monday was the Islanders Children's Foundation. Thanks to the IBC and its valued members, the entire event benefitted the Islanders Children's Foundation––the Islanders' not-for-profit charitable organization.
The day began with registration and breakfast at 9:30, prior to the arrival of the players. Taking place at the scenic Tam O’Shanter Golf Club in Brookville, N.Y., the sold-out golf outing included 140 IBC members, who were all placed with an Islanders player, coach, upper management member or legend.
Along with the entire current team, IBC Executive Director Mike Bossy, GM Garth Snow, and Islanders alums Bryan Trottier, Bobby Nystrom, Clark Gillies and Butch Goring took part in the day's activities that also included dinner and auctions.
"It was an exciting day," said COX Radio Inc. Vice President and General Manager John Shea, who was part of Richard Park's group. "When you compete against professional athletes, you don't try to beat them, just play with them."
After working hard all morning with Head Coach Scott Gordon on the ice, the players were in high spirits upon their arrival to the country club, excited to take a respite from the grind of the NHL season to meet their supporters and help a good cause.
"The players know how important the IBC and its members are to the organization, so we always look forward to interacting with them, and there's no better setting than on the golf course," said Captain Bill Guerin. "The weather was perfect today. Plus, in the end, helping the Children's Foundation is what matters most and we all enjoy getting behind that."
Helped by Islanders defenseman Jack Hillen, MET-Rx representatives Anthony Valetutti and Bob Trukenbrod, as well as their guest Mike Green, Bossy and his group finished finished in a first-place tie. The other first-place team was made up of DiPietro and his group of Mike Dunham, Billy Jaffe and MSG Network's Brian Maddox and Dan Schoenberg.
"We had a pretty good group with us," said Brian Maddox, Director of Digital Advertising Sales for MSG Network. "What a great day. It's an even better feeling knowing that it was all for a good cause."
The dinner's festivities at the Tam O’Shanter Golf Club included speeches by Team President Chris Dey, Bossy and Gillies, as well as, live and silent auctions. Prizes available were a road trip with the team to Boston and Chicago, autographed memorabilia, including a 2008-09 team-signed jersey, dinner with players, a golf outing with Snow and a VIP suite at an upcoming Islanders game. But the most sought after prize was a trip to the 2008-09 NHL All-Star Game in Montreal for the Canadiens' 100-year celebration.

"This excellent event was such a success thanks to MET-Rx and all of our sponsors," said Bossy. "It was an extremely enjoyable day and we're truly proud of the efforts everyone made into organizing this event. The Islanders Children's Foundation means a lot to the organization and we're glad the IBC and its members could help contribute to this tremendous cause."The First Annual IBC Golf Outing could not have been made possible without the support of the following sponsors:
