The Islanders Community Events Tour is an interactive NHL theme park geared towards the younger fans. The I.C.E. Tour goes out to local schools, community festivals, hockey rinks, local charity events, and other similar functions throughout the course of the year bringing the Islanders into your neighborhood.
Fans get to learn hockey tips from current Islanders coaches, meet current Islanders players and coaching staff, meet Sparky the Dragon and the Islanders Ice Girls, tour the Islanders brand new RV, and have the time of their lives playing on the interactive games and Islanders inflatables.
The biggest initiative for the tour is “A Goal in Every Driveway.” Throughout this program, the Islanders will be donating hockey equipment to various schools, community centers, summer recreation programs, and camps.
Throughout the Summer of 2008, the I.C.E. Tour made more than 150 stops, reaching more than 100,000 fans. It gave out more than 1,300 sticks, more than 300 hockey balls, and more than 50 hockey nets.
“The Islanders Summer I.C.E. Tour has been a huge success this summer,” said Ann Rina, the Islanders Community Relations Manager. “Not only were we able to make great strides in the community through out the course of last season but, this summer we were able to expose our team and the game to people of all ages.”
