“Off we go!” Andy Hilbert said as he boarded the Islanders RV and headed out for his fourth destination in three days with the I.C.E. Tour. Thursday’s stop was in Hauppauge as Hilbert visited all of the young fans who attend summer camp at The Rinx in Hauppauge. After a quick thunderstorm, the I.C.E. Tour staff had everything up and running as campers came outside to spend some time on the inflatable games and play some street hockey. Soon after, Hilbert rolled in. More than 150 campers were able to come meet Hilbert and get an autograph.
Thomas, a 7-year-old camper from Lake Grove, was thrilled to get the forward’s autograph. “I got to get my picture with him and then he signed a picture of him, one for me and one for my brother at home!” said an excited Thomas, who ran off afterwards to race a friend through the inflatable obstacle course. Hilbert also engaged the kids in a few games of street hockey, showing them how to hold the stick properly and reminding them to always keep their sticks down to make sure nobody ever gets hurt. “They are here at the camp skating in the summer and still want to continue to play outside right after they get onto the ice,” said Hilbert. “The games were fun. They really enjoy the game. I hope to see them all at the Coliseum in a few weeks.”
