The "We're All Islanders" school assembly program hit five more schools prior to the holiday break over the past week and a half. More than 2,500 students were treated to an early holiday gift as they sat through an assembly that matches no other. Children of Sunrise Drive Elementary in Sayville, Landing Elementary and Connolly Elementary of Glen Cove, Stimson Middle School in Huntington Station, and Seaford Manor Elementary of Seaford all learned the importance of teamwork from two of the most well known Islanders who aren't on the ice during the games- Dina the arena hostess and Sparky. The duo showed the children a video of some of the youngest Islanders learning about teamwork from their teacher, Head Coach Scott Gordon. Dina and Sparky then had children participate in demonstrations involving teamwork, such as a team of students racing to get one of their peers dressed in goalie equipment against a teacher who was left to fend for themselves. Each school received a donation of hockey equipment from the Islanders for the children to continue learning about teamwork through playing hockey in their gym classes. Each child also walked away with an Islanders gift bag filled with some wonderful surprises.
