Stadium Series rink construction set to get underway

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Dan Craig, the NHL's senior director of facilities operations, was able to take a deep breath Monday.

The NHL's state-of the-art mobile ice making and monitoring unit arrived on schedule at Levi's Stadium after a four-and-a-half day, 3,300-mile trip. Work can begin on time to build a rink for the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 21.

Instead of taking a more direct route to Santa Clara, the massive truck and 53-foot trailer traveled a southern path from Toronto to avoid the potential of getting stopped in mountain passes by snow storms. That added an extra 500 miles to the trip.

EPIX crew works around clock for quick turnaround

NEW YORK -- The bagels from breakfast are still sitting out while lunch is being ordered, plenty of them untouched as the hours bleed away with no one really noticing, or caring.

Producers in one of the four edit rooms are sifting through hours upon hours of footage while wearing winter coats because for some reason that no one can figure out, the heat in that particular edit room is not working properly this morning.

So what, they say. It doesn't stop them. They grind. They always grind.

Clock ticking on champion Kings' playoff hopes

WASHINGTON -- There is only so long a team can bend before it breaks. The Los Angeles Kings aren't broken yet, but their cracks are getting longer and their time to fix them is getting shorter.

"We've got to figure this thing out in a hurry," Kings center Anze Kopitar said after the latest loss, a lackluster 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Washington Capitals at Verizon Center on Tuesday.

The Kings have battled adversity in the past only to twice come out with the Stanley Cup in their hands. The problem is, what they're battling now isn't adversity, it's themselves.

They are five points out of a Stanley Cup Playoff spot with four teams to jump. They have been passed by the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild -- the three teams previously thought of as the most disappointing in the Western Conference this season -- because of uncharacteristic mistakes and an indescribable lack of passion of late.

Sharks, Kings display rivalry in episode one on EPIX

With an opening montage showing sandy beaches, palm trees, surfers and skateboarders, the first episode of "EPIX Presents Road to the NHL Stadium Series" instantly takes the viewer to California to set the scene for an introduction to a rivalry that is as hot now as it ever has been.

Away from the sand and surf are two teams, the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings, which will be featured in the four-part series prior to taking their rivalry outside, to Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Feb. 21 for the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game.

The first episode of the four-part series opens with behind-the-scenes, on-the-ice, and on-the-bench footage of the last game the two rivals will play before they take it outdoors under the Northern California sky.

The Sharks defeated the Kings 4-2 at SAP Center on Jan. 21 in what was fittingly part of NBCSN's Wednesday Night Rivalry series. EPIX had cameras all over SAP Center to prove how deep-rooted the rivalry between the teams is.

Kings unveil NHL Stadium Series uniform

The Los Angeles Kings unveiled their 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series uniforms Tuesday, and it's a different look than their outdoor jerseys from last season.

When the Kings play the San Jose Sharks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Feb. 21, 2015, Los Angeles will wear a half-gray and half-white jersey, with a black strip running horizontally through the middle and intersecting with the Kings' primary logo, the letters "LA" with a small crown in a shield.

The back of the jersey features black numbers outlined in gray on a white background, with the names in black. In addition to the Stadium Series patch on the right shoulder, each player's number will be on the right shoulder and on each sleeve in a larger size.

Larger numbers, a new shoulder patch and bolder, streamlined visuals are the highlights of the 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series jerseys unveiled Friday by the San Jose Sharks.

Given the Sharks and Los Angeles Kings will play at Levi's Stadium, a larger venue than typically used for hockey games, Reebok worked with the Sharks to create an amplified version of the hockey jersey with the hopes of looking sharper in the football stadium environment.

San Jose's jersey for the Stadium Series game will feature a horizontal striping look of teal, white and black on the front and all teal on the back. There will be a similar effect on the sleeves.

The numbers on the backs of the jerseys are 13 inches tall instead of the standard 11.5. The numbers on the shoulders are seven inches tall instead of the typical four. The design of the numbers have been simplified to make them easier to see from a distance, and the ones on the shoulders will be higher to help people who are sitting in elevated seats to view them.

Excitement building for NHL Stadium Series game

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The sun was shining brightly Thursday on a 90-degree day at 68,500-seat Levi's Stadium when NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman took the podium and delivered what to some was surprising news.

The 2015 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game between the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 21 is almost sold out, 143 days before the puck will drop.

"The game will be a sellout because it's already close to a sellout," Commissioner Bettman said during the game's kickoff press conference.

Commissioner Bettman said he "never had any doubt" the game would sell out, even at such a large stadium, the new home of the San Francisco 49ers.

"We know that there are great, passionate Sharks fans, displaced NHL fans from around North America that live in the Bay Area, and we figured you combine the Sharks with the interest in this state and it was an enormous proposition," Commissioner Bettman said.
