New Jersey Devils goalie prospect Scott Wedgewood is supporting the team with a mask featuring "Seinfeld" character David Puddy.

"It's something I've wanted for a long time," Wedgewood told the Albany Devils website. "I'm a huge 'Seinfeld' fan. Growing up, my oldest brother Mark loved it, got me into it. He has all nine seasons, I've seen every episode.

"When I was first drafted by New Jersey, one of the first things any of us said was, 'The Devils!' the tribute line David Puddy says in the TV show called 'The Face Painter.'"

Wedgewood, the 84th pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, is playing for Albany in the American Hockey League. The 23-year-old has yet to make his NHL debut.

The mask was designed by artist David Gunnarsson.

"It's just one thing that kind of unites pop culture and sports, and just different teams getting recognized in TV shows and things like that," Wedgewood said. "… It's been really interesting to watch and hear feedback. I've been getting a lot of messages, a lot of comments on my social media accounts personally, just people complimenting how cool the mask looks and obviously the work Dave did painting it. It looks tremendous."

In the 1995 episode from Seinfeld's sixth season, David Puddy is an over exuberant Devils fan who paints his face attending a playoff game against the New York Rangers.

Actor Patrick Warburton, who plays the Puddy character, tweeted his appreciation of the mask.

"He seems to like it, so that's obviously a huge plus," Wedgewood said.
