John Madden, who was a member of three Stanley Cup-winning teams as a player, joined the Florida Panthers on Thursday as a pro scout.

"We are thrilled to have John join our scouting staff,” general manager Dale Tallon said in a statement. “He is a three-time Stanley Cup winner and brings to our organization a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game.”

Madden began his NHL career in 1998 and played with the New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota Wild before finishing with the Panthers in 2011-12 and helping Florida win the Southeast Division title. He was a member of Cup-winning teams with the Devils in 2000 and 2003, and with the Blackhawks in 2010.

The Toronto native played in 898 NHL regular-season games, scoring 165 goals and finishing his career with 348 points. He was awarded the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward in 2001.

Madden spent one year with the Montreal Canadiens serving on their scouting staff.
