Steve Spott, who will coach Team Canada at the 2013 World Junior Championship, is keeping a close eye on the Subway Super Series games as he goes about creating the roster he'll take with him to Russia in December.

After watching Wednesday's Super Series game in Val-d'Or, Quebec, he might have one line already set -- the trio of Nathan MacKinnon, Jonathan Huberdeau and Jonathan Drouin combined for 11 points as Team QMJHL beat Team Russia 5-2.

MacKinnon, a leading candidate to be the first pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, had a goal and three assists, more than making up for his minus-4 performance Monday in Team QMJHL's 6-2 loss in the Super Series opener Monday in Blainville, Quebec.

Huberdeau, the Florida Panthers' top prospect, added a pair of goals -- including the game-winner early in the second -- and an assist. Drouin, who sat out Monday's game with a foot injury, had a goal and three assists. MacKinnon's teammate with the Halifax Mooseheads, Drouin also likely will be a top 10 pick in June.

Francis Beauvillier also scored a goal for Team QMJHL, and goalies Zachary Fucale and Francois Brassard combined to stop 22 of 24 shots.

Andrei Sigarev and Vladimir Tkachev scored for Team Russia. Nail Yakupov and Mikhail Grigorenko, Russia's biggest offensive stars, were held scoreless after scoring a goal and an assist each Monday.

Team QMJHL's two biggest offensive stars stepped up big in the second period to lead Team QMJHL to a 3-1 lead on Team Russia after two periods at their Subway Super Series game in Val-d'Or, Quebec.

Jonathan Huberdeau scored two goals in the period, both assisted by top 2013 NHL Draft prospect Nathan MacKinnon.

The pair started Monday's series opener on the same line, but were separated during the game, and started Wednesday's game on different lines. Coach Andre Tourigny reunited them during the second period and the pair clicked perfectly.

MacKinnon created a center-ice turnover, and then Huberdeau poked the loose puck through a Team Russia player to create a 2-on-0 rush with MacKinnon, who jumped into the play, took a pass from Huberdeau and returned it to the Florida Panthers top prospects for an easy goal at 3:51 of the period.

After one period, Team QMJHL and Team Russia are tied 1-1 in the second game of their portion of the Subway Super Series, in Val-d'Or, Quebec.

Team QMJHL opened the scoring less than a minute in, when Florida Panthers prospect Francis Beauvillier scored just 59 seconds into the game. Brent Andrews won a draw in Team Russia's end straight back to defenseman James Melindy at the blue line. Melindy moved the puck to Beauvillier at the outside edge of the right circle. Beauvillier's quick shot went past goalie Andrey Vasilevskiy to make it 1-0.

The hosts nearly made it 2-0 when Charles Hudon had a shorthanded breakaway moments later, but Vasilevskiy made the save.

The all-stars of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will look to rebound against Team Russia on Wednesday in Val d'Or, Quebec, in the second game of the Subway Super Series at the Centre Air Creebec.

Team QMJHL is coming off a 6-2 loss to the Russians on Monday when Mikhail Grigorenko, Nail Yakupov, Maxim Shalunov and Valentin Zykov each notched a goal and one assist. The four-goal margin was the largest in a victory for the Russian select team since a 5-1 verdict against the Western Hockey League in 2007 -- a span of 25 games.

The Russians enter Wednesday's contest having won five straight against Team QMJHL.

Due to the efficiency of the Bloom box, HP Pavilion at San Jose will reduce its carbon footprint by 4.8 million pounds of CO2 over a ten-year period. That equates to taking 427 passenger vehicles off the road.

The second day of the 2012 World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, saw the United States score a 4-3 victory over Switzerland and Canada West cruise past the Czech Republic.

The triumph catapults the unbeaten United States (2-0) into Friday's semifinal contest. Canada West will play Russia in Wednesday's Group A finale, with a bye into the semifinal round at stake.

NHL Central Scouting's Chris Edwards was front and center during Tuesday's doubleheader at Mariners Centre in Yarmouth. Here are his three stars from Tuesday's action:

Anthony Louis and Sean Malone each had a goal and one assist Tuesday when the U.S. Under-18 Team scored a 3-1 victory over Finland in the opener for both teams at the 2012 U-18 Four Nations Tournament at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube in Michigan.

Malone, who earned a C rating on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary players to watch list in the United States Hockey League, scored 17:02 into the second to give the United States a 2-1 lead. Tyler Kelleher had given the U.S. team a 1-0 lead 7:43 into the first, when the hosts outshot the Finns, 22-6.

After a slow start offensively, the U.S. opened things up in the second period en route to a 4-3 defeat of Switzerland on Tuesday, the second day of the World Junior A Challenge, being played at Mariners Center in Yarmouth, N.S.

The U.S. trailed 1-0 after one period, but scored four goals in the second, including three in the first 5:39 of the period, to blow the game open and earn a spot in the tournament semifinals Friday. The U.S. won Group B with a 2-0 record that includes Monday's 9-1 defeat of Canada East.

After sitting out the opening game of the 2012 Subway Super Series against Russia with a foot injury, Halifax Mooseheads forward and top draft-eligible prospect Jonathan Drouin has been cleared to play in Wednesday's second game in Val-d’Or, Quebec.

Drouin, who suffered his injury while blocking a shot on Saturday for Halifax, sat out the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's 6-2 loss to Russia on Monday.

Drouin will be joined by Halifax teammates Nathan MacKinnon, Brent Andrews and Zach Fucale in the lineup. Fucale, a goaltender, was also absent on Monday and MacKinnon was a minus-4 on the top line with Jonathan Huberdeau and Jean-Sebastien Dea. Andrews played a role on the team's fourth line.

The opening day of the 2012 World Junior A Challenge in Yarmouth, N.S., on Monday saw the United States and Russia score victories in their respective contests.

The U.S. recorded a 9-1 triumph over Canada East, which garnered silver in last year's tournament, while Russia scored six unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 victory over the Czech Republic. NHL Central Scouting's Chris Edwards is in Nova Scotia, carefully viewing those draft eligible players on the radar and competing for their countries.
