Williams Suffers Another Long-Term Injury

OK, now this "bad luck with injuries" thing has moved miles beyond ridiculous.

Training camp hasn't even started yet, and already winger Justin Williams is expected to miss four to six months with a ruptured Achilles tendon.  Different injury, but it amounts to the exact same severity of the torn ACL he suffered last year that effectively ended his season.  The injury ocurred this morning during a training session.

Although the Brind'Amour surgery yesterday wasn't a huge deal and shouldn't be lumped together with the Williams injury (if anything, the Canes are lucky they discovered Brind'Amour's cartilage tear early enough to get him back for opening night), this one hurts.  You have to feel for Williams, who I'm sure was raring to start the season after playing only 3:48 of one game since December 20 of last year.

Well, that leaves one spot at wing up for grabs going into camp, setting up the first real position battle of the fall.  Drayson Bowman, Jeff O'Neill and new signing Matt Murley are all possibilities, or maybe the Canes stick with what they have and move someone like Ryan Bayda or Brandon Sutter up to a scoring line - the latter of which GM Jim Rutherford said was a possibility this season.  Should be interesting to watch.
