Now that we’re sure there will in fact be a Game 6 at the RBC Center this Sunday, naturally there a lot of questions about when it would be.
Unfortunately, there might not be any way to tell for a few days. The ugly television-related “TBD” next to the game time hinges on the Washington-New York Rangers series, which in turn has yet to be determined. If that series is over by Sunday, the Hurricanes will play on NBC at 2 p.m. If it’s not, it will be a night game on Versus (nationally, but possibly still on Fox Sports Carolinas locally – in HD either way) beginning at the usual 7:30 time.
The Rangers currently lead that series 2-1 with Game 4 tonight and Game 5 on Friday. If the Capitals win tonight and tie the series, there will definitely be a Game 6 on Sunday, which pushes the Canes to the evening slot.
If New York wins tonight, the series could potentially end on Friday with another Rangers win, but a Washington victory would also force a Game 6. In that scenario, we wouldn’t know anything for certain until Friday night or Saturday morning at the earliest.
So, there you have it. I have a feeling it will be the night game, because I don’t think the Rangers are getting away from Ovechkin and company that easily, especially with Capitals goaltender Simeon Varlamov (this year’s Cam Ward?) looking as though he can play.
Either way, tickets are still available, so don’t be shy.
Here’s a cool programming note we just got wind of – FSC is giving last night’s Game 4 the instant classic treatment, and will replay the game in its entirety this Thursday, April 23, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET. The second showing leads right into Game 5, in case you wanted to watch the Jokinen goal one last time to fire you up for the big contest in Newark.
