The Carolina Hurricanes return from a three-game road trip to face off against the Buffalo Sabres, Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Entertainment and Sports Arena. Following the game against Buffalo, Carolina will travel northeast to meet the Boston Bruins on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Boston’s Fleet Center. Hurricane forward Sami Kapanen (12/6-12/13: 3g, 2a) brings a three-game scoring streak into the weekend’s games. Along with scoring in the past three games, Kapanen has also tallied points in four of the last five games (11/30-12/13: 5g, 2a). Carolina goaltender Arturs Irbe has posted an 1.88 goals against average in the Hurricanes’ last six games having stopped 110 of 120 shots he has faced.

The Hurricanes and Buffalo have met once this season, October 25 at the Sabres’ HSBC Arena. Buffalo dealt Carolina a loss, 4-1 as Saber goaltender Domink Hasek stymied 30 of 31 Hurricane shots on goal. The teams split their four-game series, 2-2 last season, each team winning one and dropping one at home. Hurricanes team captain Ron Francis (1g, 4a) and Buffalo’s Mirolav Satan (2g, 3a) led all scorers in last season’s series with five points each. The Hurricanes are 50-72-17 all time against Buffalo and post a 28-32-10 record on home ice when facing the Sabres.
